Green Plantain

The green banana is the variety of banana that is consumed before it fully ripens. It has a firmer texture and a starchier flavor than conventional bananas and a lower sugar content.

It is mainly consumed cooked when it is still green. It is cooked boiled, fried, steamed or in other processing formulas such as, for example, chips (patacones, chifles, tostones). Another form of consumption is banana flour.

Nutritional Benefit

Like ripe bananas, green bananas are a good source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provide a source of sustained energy, plus they are rich in fiber, potassium and vitamins C, A and B6, and other essential nutrients, although in different proportions due to to the maturation stage.
